Village of Wilmette requires everyone who intends to install a generator to submit a permit application as well as 2 copies of the plate of survey and 2 copies of manufacturer’s specification of the transfer switch and the unit’s set and noise output. In addition, the inspector will need to come to assess the construction final and electrical final. What is more, there are certain restrictions on installing and utilizing the generator. Village of Wilmette mentions the following restrictions on their websites :
“Setbacks.- for residential installations, generators may not be located in a front yard or side yard adjoining a street. Generators may be no closer than 15' from side and rear lot lines.
Noise Level- generators are permitted to operate in normal or full load up to 70 decibels at any lot line. Generators are to be maintained by the owner so that this limit is not exceeded throughout the life of the unit.
Testing Periods- Testing of equipment is limited to a maximum of 30 minutes in any seven day period. Testing is to be conducted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.”
